Nigeria is set to launch a communal ranching initiative in six states to promote climate-smart livestock production, as announced by Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha. The initiative aims to improve feed systems and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with land allocation expected before the next rainy season. Supported by the ILRI-GATES Livestock Feed and Nutrition Project, it will focus on alternative protein sources and climate-resilient forages to enhance livestock productivity and food security.
