DEFENSE

The New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE) has partnered with the UK Armed Forces to introduce a new undergraduate degree in Autonomous Systems, starting in September 2026. This program will lead to a Masters in Engineering (MEng) in three years, focusing on drone technologies.

The initiative aligns with the UK Government's Industrial Strategy and Strategic Defence Review, highlighting the need for new skills in priority areas. Minister for the Armed Forces Al Carns emphasized the importance of developing skills to address modern threats, as the UK increases investment in autonomous systems.

The program aims to equip graduates for civilian, commercial, humanitarian, and defense applications. NMITE's President James Newby stated that the degree will meet national skills needs and support local economic growth in Herefordshire.
