Nova Austral Reports Antibiotic-Free Salmon Production and Sustainability Advances in 2024 Report

NATURAL GAS

In its 2024 Sustainability Report, Chilean salmon-farming company Nova Austral claims to be the only firm in the country producing antibiotic-free salmon. This production is recognized by the Chilean Salmon Antibiotic Reduction Program Plus (CSARP+) and validated by the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca).

Nova Austral renewed several international certifications in 2024, including Aquaculture Stewardship Council and Global Good Agricultural Practices. The company reported a 29% reduction in energy consumption from 2023 and began measuring greenhouse gas emissions in line with ISO standards.

Additionally, a study was conducted to transition from diesel to natural gas at its farms. Despite past environmental infractions and fines totaling CLP 1.02 billion, the firm has restructured its management and ownership, with Larta Investment Group becoming the sole owner in September 2024.
