The Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division inaugurated the Garvin Thomas Plant Watch Lab on December 12, 2025, to enhance workforce training and process control in response to increased demand for solid rocket motors and munitions. The lab provides a non-hazardous environment for hands-on training and system testing, benefiting approximately 50 personnel with tailored plans, and is named in honor of mechanical engineer Garvin Wayne Thomas.
