NZDF Pauses Army's Bicultural Policy Implementation Amid Controversy

DEFENSE

The NZDF has paused the implementation of its new bicultural cultural skills framework following concerns from Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour and Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters. The framework, which set expectations for tikanga and te reo Māori among leaders, was introduced as part of a broader policy launched on January 28.

The Chief of Army assured that further consultation is needed. The policy aims to strengthen the Army's cultural understanding and operational capability.
