Omaha District Initiates $9.1 Million Butterfly Valve Rehabilitation at Fort Peck Dam

DEFENSE

The Omaha District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has initiated a $9.1 million rehabilitation project for two butterfly valves at Fort Peck Dam, originally installed in 1960. This refurbishment, chosen over a costly replacement, aims to enhance operational reliability and ensure a fully sealed closure of water flow in under five minutes, with completion expected by spring 2026. The project is designed to extend the valves' lifespan by at least 65 years while minimizing impacts on power generation during routine maintenance.
