Pentagon Proposes Major Military Headquarters Reorganization Under Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth

DEFENSE

The Pentagon is planning a significant reorganization to reduce the number of major military headquarters from 11 to 8, as part of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's initiative to shift military power dynamics. The proposal includes downgrading U.S.

Central Command, U.S. European Command, and U.S. Africa Command under a new U.S.

International Command. Additionally, U.S. Southern Command and U.S.

Northern Command would be realigned under a new U.S. Americas Command. The plan aims to enhance decision-making speed among military commanders and has resulted in the dismissal of over 20 senior officers.

The proposed changes align with the Trump administration's national security strategy and require approval from Hegseth and President Trump, with Congress mandating a detailed blueprint for potential impacts. The proposal is expected to be presented to Hegseth shortly.
