Philippines Enacts Natural Gas Industry Development Act to Boost Energy Security Ahead of 2026 Summit
The Natural Gas Industry Development Act (RA 12120), enacted in January 2025, aims to enhance the Philippines' energy security and attract investments in indigenous natural gas resources to meet growing energy demands. This law is part of a broader framework that includes the Philippine Energy Development Plan and the Renewable Energy Act (RA 9513), which focuses on clean energy for long-term growth.
The ASEAN Centre for Energy recognizes natural gas as a crucial player in achieving carbon neutrality in Southeast Asia. The upcoming 5th Philippine Natural Gas Investment Summit (PNGIS) will gather stakeholders to discuss the role of natural gas in the clean energy transition and identify strategies for ensuring energy security while promoting decarbonization and community inclusion.
