POSCO Develops Korea's First High-Ductility and Bulletproof Steel for Naval Ships with KR Certification
DEFENSE
POSCO has developed the first high-ductility and bulletproof steel for naval ships in Korea, receiving classification approval from the Korean Register in January. This certification validates the entire development process, enhancing the steel's elongation by 35% and improving impact absorption by 58%.
The new ballistic steel is 30% thinner than traditional plates, offering protection while reducing weight. This initiative aims to boost the performance of the South Korean Navy's next-generation vessels and strengthen domestic shipyard competitiveness.
