Raccoon Mountain Hydroelectric Plant Powers 1 Million Homes in Tennessee Valley
HYDRO POWERFLOW CONTROL
The Raccoon Mountain hydroelectric facility, TVA's largest, powers 1 million homes in the Tennessee Valley. It features four 425-megawatt units and utilizes a reversible turbine system to generate and store electricity.
The plant's design allows for efficient power generation during high demand and water pumping to a reservoir during low demand. TVA is also planning a similar facility in Jackson County, Alabama, with an estimated cost of $2-4 million.
