Radar Research on Thwaites Glacier Aims to Inform NASA's Europa Mission
GEOTHERMAL
Radar research conducted by the icebreaker Araon on Antarctica's Thwaites Glacier aims to enhance understanding of its movement and impact on sea level rise, providing vital data for NASA's upcoming Europa Clipper mission. Led by Chris Pierce of Montana State University, the team flew 310 miles over the glacier to analyze its internal layers and geothermal effects, which will inform future explorations of Europa's icy surface for signs of habitability.
