RenuWell Project to Transform Alberta's Abandoned Oil Wells into Micro Solar Farms
SOLAR ENERGY
The RenuWell Project, spearheaded by Keith Hirsche, aims to convert Alberta's approximately 17,000 abandoned oil wells into micro solar farms, potentially supplying up to 100% of household energy needs. The initiative could generate 77,500 construction jobs and 1,860 permanent positions in renewable energy, with pilot projects already showing promise for stabilizing rural electricity grids. The next phase involves testing a one-megawatt solar farm on a retired well, with plans for broader expansion depending on the results.
