Revitalizing US Shipbuilding Task Force Launched by Atlantic Council and Johns Hopkins University
The Atlantic Council and Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory have initiated the Revitalizing US Shipbuilding Task Force to modernize the U.S. maritime industrial base. Co-chaired by Christine Fox, Mark Esper, and Kenneth Braithwaite, the task force will include experts from the defense industry, such as Hanwha Defense USA and General Dynamics.
Over the next 12 months, the group will focus on advanced manufacturing capabilities, workforce incentives, and improving shipbuilding capacity through partnerships with ally firms. This initiative follows a recent report by the Hypersonic Capabilities Task Force, which highlighted the need for the U.S. to enhance its defense capabilities in response to threats from China and Russia.
