Rochester City Council to Vote on Mayor's Vetoes of Sports Complex and Salvation Army Funding
The Rochester City Council will hold a special meeting to address Mayor Kim Norton's vetoes of three council actions. A 5-2 majority is needed to override the vetoes. Two vetoed items pertain to the Regional Sports Complex, including a $28 million construction contract and a $24 million material purchasing budget.
The Mayor also vetoed an operator agreement for the complex, arguing that the $65 million in sales tax revenue approved by voters would only cover the outdoor portion of the facility. Additionally, Mayor Norton vetoed a $20,000 funding request for the Rochester Salvation Army's rental assistance program, citing technical factors. The special meeting is set for Monday at 6 p.m.
