At the informal EU Council COMPET meeting in Nicosia on February 2-3, Romania urged a quicker shift from prototypes to industrial-scale defense production. Represented by Viorel Baltaretu from MEDAT, Romania emphasized the creation of a predictable framework for the defense industry, highlighting a €535 million agreement with Rheinmetall for a gunpowder factory. The discussions also included addressing competitiveness constraints and aligning EU goals with member states' delivery capacities.
