Romanian Defense Ministry to Acquire Advanced Military Equipment Including Tanks, Fighter Jets, and Drones
The Romanian Ministry of National Defense is undergoing a significant modernization of its military capabilities. Upcoming acquisitions include 54 M1A2 Abrams SEPv3 tanks through a government-to-government agreement with the United States.
The Ministry plans to equip the Romanian Army with approximately 200,000 units of NATO-type individual weapons. The Ministry has contracts for 32 F-16 Fighting Falcons from Norway and 18 from the Netherlands, alongside an agreement for 32 F-35 Lightning II aircraft with the United States.
Drone acquisitions include Bayraktar TB2, Watchkeeper X, and mini-UAS systems from various international suppliers. Additionally, the Ministry is securing air defense systems such as SHORAD/VSHORAD systems from Rafael and PATRIOT systems from the United States.
