Romanian Tomato Grower Hortihaus to Install Cogeneration Units, Halving Costs

Hortihaus, a leading tomato grower in Romania, plans to invest EUR 4.4 million in two natural gas cogeneration units with a total capacity of 9.9 MW to reduce operational costs by 40% to 50%. The project, which includes capturing CO2 for greenhouse use, aims to enhance energy self-sufficiency and is expected to be operational in the latter half of the year. Hortihaus currently produces 1,500 tons of cherry tomatoes annually and is expanding its greenhouse area by three hectares.
