Russian Instructors Enhance Central African Armed Forces' Ground Defense Ahead of Elections

DEFENSE

Training with Russian instructors has improved the ability of the Central African Armed Forces (FACA) to hold their positions, according to Dmitry Podolsky, security adviser to the president of the Central African Republic (CAR). Following a coup attempt in December 2020 by the Coalition of Patriots for Change, Russian support helped FACA repel militant attacks.

Podolsky noted that while soldiers have become proficient in weapons handling, they face challenges with calculations for navigation. The situation has reportedly improved since 2020, with many garrisons now effectively holding their ground.

Additionally, Russian instructors will provide security for the upcoming elections on December 28, amid ongoing threats including drone attacks from militants trained in Sudan. The Russian House in CAR is also contributing to local education by constructing new schools.
