Salvation Army to Reduce Bremerton Shelter Hours Due to Funding Cuts
DEFENSE
The Salvation Army in Bremerton will transition its low-barrier emergency shelter to overnight-only hours starting January 1, 2026, following a loss of nearly $150,000 in federal funding. This reduction in services is expected to increase daytime homelessness, as residents will need to leave the shelter during the day. Despite the shelter continuing to provide meals and a hygiene center, local funding has significantly decreased, and plans for a new shelter remain stalled.
