Sanford Noyes McDonnell, the former CEO and chairman of McDonnell Douglas Corp., passed away at the age of 89 on March 19, 2012, due to pancreatic cancer. A WWII veteran who contributed to the Manhattan Project, McDonnell played a pivotal role in major aerospace initiatives, including the F-4 Phantom II and the Skylab space station.
