Sault Ste. Marie Councillors Reject $75 Million Natural Gas Plant Proposal

Sault Ste. Marie city councillors declined to support a $75 million energy project by Northern Ontario Capacity to build three natural gas plants. Two plants were proposed on Great Northern Road, and one on Fifth Line East.

The project aimed to create 20 construction jobs and five permanent jobs post-construction. The proposed sites included: Brandes, east side of Great Northern Road, 210 metres north of Schultz Side Road; McQueen, 224 Fifth Line East, northeast corner of Fifth Line and Old Goulais Bay Road; and Snowdump, east side of Great Northern Road, 120 metres south of Sixth Line, currently a private snow dump.
