SEG and ABB Modernize Wayang Windu Geothermal Power Plant in West Java

GEOTHERMAL

Star Energy Geothermal (SEG), a subsidiary of Barito Renewables, is collaborating with ABB to modernize the Wayang Windu geothermal power plant in West Java, which has a capacity of 230.5 MW across three units, including the developing Unit 3. ABB is implementing its ABB Ability™ Symphony Plus distributed control system (DCS) in Units 1 and 2, enhancing operational efficiency, stability, and reducing downtime.

The modernization also upgrades the Human Machine Interface (HMI) to Symphony Plus. The initiative aligns with Indonesia's goal to utilize 7,200 MW of geothermal capacity by 2025, as per the 2020-2024 National Energy Plan.

Currently, only 10% of Indonesia's geothermal potential of 24,000 MW is utilized. SEG operates additional facilities at Gunung Salak and Darajat and aims to expand capacity at Wayang Windu.
