Sikkim Opens Doklam and Cho La to Tourists to Boost Border Tourism and Development
Sikkim has opened the border areas of Doklam and Cho La to tourists under regulated conditions, aiming to promote battlefield tourism and enhance development in border regions. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang stated that this initiative aligns with a national vision for border development and acknowledges the collaborative efforts of the Indian Army, State Government, and central authorities.
He emphasized that increased tourist activity will generate economic opportunities and improve living conditions for local communities. Tamang assured ongoing infrastructure improvements, including developments at Changu, and noted that road conditions in high-altitude areas will be addressed. He acknowledged the impact of social media on tourism perceptions while highlighting significant improvements in road connectivity from Sevoke to Siliguri, enhancing access to Sikkim.
