Silicon Valley Clean Water Marks 50 Years and Initiates Projects for Energy Neutrality

NATURAL GASENERGY STORAGE

Silicon Valley Clean Water (SVCW) celebrates 50 years of wastewater treatment services to mid-Peninsula communities and has begun key projects aimed at achieving energy neutrality. These projects enhance energy optimization, upgrade plant infrastructure, recycle treated wastewater, and mitigate future algae blooms in the San Francisco Bay.

The first phase of SVCW's Capital Improvement Program (CIP) will complete in early 2025, focusing on the Regional Environmental Sewer Conveyance Upgrade (RESCU) to improve system reliability and efficiency. SVCW generates 70% of its electricity from methane and utilizes lithium-ion batteries for energy storage. Collaborating with Bay Area Clean Water Agencies, SVCW adheres to wastewater regulations and aims to reduce pollutants in treated wastewater discharges to protect the San Francisco Bay.
