SNCF and Sun-Ways Identify 38 Million m² in France for Solar Panel Installation Along Railways

SOLAR ENERGY

A potential area of 38 million square meters has been identified in France for solar panel installation along SNCF railways. The Swiss startup Sun-Ways has initiated a pilot project in Neuchâtel, testing removable photovoltaic panels that can generate 18 kWc from 100 meters of track.

SNCF has partnered with Sun-Ways to evaluate the technology until 2028, aiming to utilize its 12 million m² of built space and 100,000 hectares of unused land. This initiative could significantly contribute to local energy production and the transition to renewable energy.
