Solar and Battery Storage Projects Surge in Pennsylvania Amid Rising Power Demand
NATURAL GASENERGY STORAGEDATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTUREFUSION & ADVANCED NUCLEAR POWERSOLAR ENERGY
Pennsylvania's industrial power demand is projected to increase by 14.8% annually through 2029, driven by data center growth. The state, rich in natural gas and nuclear energy, has seen solar energy projects rise significantly, with solar accounting for 7.2 GW of the 14.7 GW of active power projects as of May 2025.
New rules from PJM aim to expedite grid connections for data centers. Despite the focus on renewables, natural gas will remain the primary energy source, supported by the Marcellus Shale's low-cost gas production.
