South Korean Marine Corps Launches Marlin High-Speed Combat Boat for Coastal Operations

DEFENSE

The South Korean Marine Corps has launched the Marlin high-speed combat boat (HCB), measuring approximately 18 meters. Designed for coastal operations, it features a domestically developed waterjet propulsion system that enables a top speed of 80 km/h and improved handling in shallow waters.

The construction contract was signed with Gangnam Co. in July 2024, with the launch occurring in December 2025 and delivery expected in December 2026. The Marlin is equipped with a Remote Controlled Weapon Station armed with a 12.7 mm machine gun and ballistic protection for crew safety.

It is intended to enhance mobility in constrained environments, allowing for rapid deployment and discreet operations. This development reflects South Korea's evolving defense strategy amidst regional tensions, emphasizing the importance of specialized fast boats in maritime stability.
