South Korea's HD Hyundai Exports K2 Tank Engines, Ending Reliance on German Technology
DEFENSE
South Korea's HD Hyundai Construction Equipment has begun exporting the DV27K engine for the K2 main battle tank, achieving defense industrial self-reliance by replacing the previously used German MTU MB873 series. The new 1,500-horsepower engine meets all requirements for armored vehicles, allowing the K2 tank to reach speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour and facilitating exports without third-party approval. Contracts have been secured for 116 engines for Poland and sole supplier status for Turkey's Altay tank, with additional interest from regions including South America and the Middle East.
