South Portland City Council Approves $62-$68 Million Mahoney Civic Center Plan Without Library
GEOTHERMAL
The South Portland City Council has endorsed a scaled-back plan for a civic center at the former Mahoney Middle School, estimated to cost between $62-$68 million. The revised project includes city services on the first two floors, along with gym and theater renovations, but omits a library and leaves the third floor vacant.
The council seeks to enhance the design and plans to send the project to a referendum. Previous proposals were deemed too expensive, with costs reaching $193.8 million.
