Space Force Aims to Accelerate Airborne Moving Target Indicator Development with $2 Billion Funding

The Space Force plans to expedite the Airborne Moving Target Indicator (AMTI) program, supported by $2 billion in fiscal 2026 funding. Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman expressed optimism regarding the development of AMTI prototypes in collaboration with the National Reconnaissance Office. The goal is to transition airborne tracking capabilities from aging aircraft to space-based sensors, with both AMTI and Ground Moving Target Indicator (GMTI) systems expected to be operational by the early 2030s.
