The Spanish Army has commenced operational trials of 40 VCR Dragón 8x8 armored vehicles, part of a program initiated in 2007 to replace older models with a total of 1,200 planned. Following delays, the program was revitalized in 2013, culminating in a €1.74 billion contract signed in 2020 for the first phase, which includes advanced features such as a 30 mm cannon and Spike missile compatibility. The vehicles, weighing approximately 33 tonnes and capable of speeds up to 100 km/h, are built by a consortium led by Indra.
