SSB Established in 1963 for Border Security and Crime Prevention
DEFENSE
The Special Service Bureau (SSB), established on March 15, 1963, in response to the Sino-Indian Conflict of 1962, is dedicated to preventing trans-border crimes and conducting disaster relief operations along the Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan borders. Operating under various laws, the SSB has jurisdiction within a 15 km belt in several Indian states and is recognized for its contributions to national security, having received the President's Colours in 2004. The organization is led by a Director General and consists of infantry-style battalions and specialized units.
