St Vincent Government Considers Capping Geothermal Wells Due to Safety Concerns

Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday announced in the 2026 Budget address that geothermal wells in northern St Vincent are emitting steam and gases, posing potential public safety and environmental risks. The SVG Geothermal Project, initiated in 2019 in partnership with Reykjavik Geothermal, aims to extract 15 megawatts of energy from wells at La Soufrière volcano.
