Statesboro to Invest $990,349 in GDOT Road Widening Project on Highway 301 North
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is widening approximately 1.5 miles of Highway 301 North in Bulloch County to four lanes, costing the city of Statesboro close to $1 million. The project includes relocating the city's high-pressure natural gas line, which will incur a cost of $990,349.82, with the contract awarded to Southeast Connections, LLC.
Funding will be sourced from the 2019 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) and natural gas revenues. The high cost is attributed to the necessity of using steel pipe for the gas main, as opposed to less expensive materials for water or sewer lines. City officials indicate that there will be no fee increase for natural gas customers and no expected service disruptions during the rerouting process.
