STS Defence Secures £12.96m MoD Contract for Type 26 Frigate Communications Systems in Gosport

DEFENSE

STS Defence has secured a £12.96 million contract with the UK Ministry of Defence to produce and install integrated UHF SATCOM and EFMTE 4.2 systems on the City-class Type 26 frigates. This contract, which will extend until May 2033, aims to support communications for the Royal Navy's submarine-hunting operations in the North Atlantic.

STS Defence, based in Gosport, employs over 200 individuals, and this contract will help maintain job security as it is delivered over the next eight years. The Type 26 frigates, with a total of eight being built by BAE Systems in Glasgow, are expected to join the Royal Navy fleet from 2028 to the mid-2030s. Additionally, BAE Systems is investing £320 million into developing next-generation radar capabilities at its facility on the Isle of Wight, which will enhance existing systems and support future naval operations.
