Switzerland Reestablishes EU Collaboration in Quantum Research with New Initiatives
Switzerland has resumed full participation in EU research programs as of November 2025, allowing Swiss researchers to engage in six EU initiatives, including 'Horizon Europe.' The Swiss Quantum Initiative, launched by the Federal Council, aims to enhance funding for fundamental research and international collaborations in quantum technologies.
Swiss groups, including PSI and ETH Zurich, are recognized for their leadership in quantum computing and sensor technology. Notably, PSI established a Quantum Computing Hub in 2021 and collaborates with Qnami and CSEM to develop quantum sensors for brain research.
ID Quantique, a spin-off from the University of Geneva, specializes in quantum key distribution for secure communications. Additionally, Swiss PIC, inaugurated in November 2025, focuses on technology transfer and supports the photonics industry by assisting start-ups with photonic packaging challenges.
