DEFENSE

Taiwan's Kang Ding frigate (PFG-1202) has entered dry dock for missile system modernization, following upgrades to its sister ship, Chen De (PFG-1208). The frigate will replace its RIM-72C Sea Chaparral launcher with the domestically developed Hua Yang vertical launch system, enhancing its air defense with 32 Sea Sword II missiles, and will upgrade to the Type 997 Artisan radar for improved detection. This modernization program, affecting all six Kang Ding-class frigates, is budgeted at approximately NT$43.16 billion and aims for completion by 2030.
