Tajikistan to Achieve Energy Independence by 2027 with Rogun Hydropower Plant Completion
Tajikistan plans to achieve complete energy independence by September 2027, coinciding with the operation of the third unit of the Rogun Hydropower Plant. President Emomali Rahmon announced that the country will eliminate electricity consumption limits and reported that 18,600 workers are currently involved in construction, with over 60% of the project completed.
The government has allocated 9 billion somoni from the state budget for the project this year. Additionally, modernization of existing hydropower plants and the construction of solar power plants aiming for 1500 kW of solar energy will further support energy independence. The Rogun HPP, located on the Vakhsh River, is set to be Central Asia's largest power plant, featuring the world's tallest dam, and aims to enhance regional energy security while exporting surplus power to neighboring countries.
