Tenaska Power Plant Seeks Operating Permit Amid Emissions Concerns in South Huntingdon

NATURAL GAS

Tenaska Pennsylvania Partners LLC is applying for an operating permit for its Tenaska Westmoreland Generating Station, a 940-megawatt natural gas plant near Smithton, which emits significant pollutants including carbon dioxide. A public hearing by the state Department of Environmental Protection will be held on February 4 to address emissions monitoring and compliance concerns, particularly raised by the Environmental Integrity Project, while local residents have reported no major issues. The DEP is also accepting comments on the renewal of the plant's water permit for discharging into the Youghiogheny River.
