TNB Ensures Electricity Supply During Gas Pipeline Fire in Malaysia

HYDRO POWER

On April 1, 2025, a fire at a gas pipeline in Putra Heights disrupted gas supply to power stations in Malaysia. Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) quickly activated emergency protocols to maintain electricity supply, temporarily switching gas-fired plants to oil and increasing output from coal and hydropower stations.

TNB staff worked continuously for 11 days to restore power. Future measures include reinforcing gas pipelines and developing a new gas terminal in Lumut, ensuring energy security until 2027.
