Tractebel Adopts Adaptive Piping Strategies for Ammonia Terminal at Fos-sur-Mer, France
NATURAL GASAMMONIA
Tractebel, part of ENGIE, is converting an LNG terminal in Fos-sur-Mer, France, into an ammonia import facility, implementing a new piping strategy that allows for simultaneous LNG operations. The design has shifted from a subsea pipe-in-pipe system to a jetty-mounted single-wall piping system with advanced safety features, including remotely actuated isolation valves and fibre-optic monitoring for leak detection. The project aims for Safety Integrity Level 2 reliability, with plans for ongoing performance evaluations and potential future enhancements such as digital twins and hybrid materials.
