Transocean Secures Six-Well Drilling Contract in Australia; SGH Energy Directed to Address Methane Leak
Transocean Ltd has been awarded a six-well drilling contract in Australia, expected to begin in Q1 2027, with an estimated campaign duration of 320 days and a backlog contribution of approximately US$130 million, excluding mobilization costs. The contract includes options that could extend operations of the Deepwater Skyros drillship into early 2030.
The Deepwater Skyros is a Samsung 12000-type ultra-deepwater drillship capable of drilling to 12,192 meters and operating in water depths up to 3,658 meters. Separately, the National Offshore Petroleum Safety & Environmental Management Authority has mandated SGH Energy VICP54 Pty Ltd to rectify a methane leak from the abandoned Longtom well in Gippsland, Victoria. SGH must assess the condition of Longtom wells and provide a report by 31 March 2026, with a technical study on well suitability due by 30 April 2026 and continuous monitoring reinstated by 30 October 2027.
