DEFENSE

An AH-1S Cobra helicopter crashed in Gapyeong County, South Korea, during military drills, killing its two-man crew. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. with no signs of fire or armaments, suggesting a possible mechanical failure.

The Army has grounded all AH-1S Cobras and initiated an investigation, focusing on wreckage analysis. Defense Minister Ahn Kyu-back emphasized resource mobilization for the probe. The helicopters, in service since 1991, are scheduled for retirement between 2028 and 2031.
