Tybee Island to Initiate $25 Million in Infrastructure Projects in 2026

The City of Tybee Island plans to undertake several major infrastructure projects in 2026, totaling approximately $25 million. Key initiatives include a $1 million dune restoration project aimed at addressing erosion near the Savannah River, set to begin in March 2026.

Additionally, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is scheduled to conduct a $20 million beach renourishment project, which will involve pumping 1.2 million cubic yards of sand onto the beach by the end of 2026.

The city will also address sewage system issues by implementing sanitary sewer projects, including the installation of a new 60-inch pipe under 15th Street, costing nearly $4 million. Plans to construct a new fire station for $2.4 million are underway, with construction expected to start by summer 2026. Furthermore, Tybee Island will initiate a master planning process for Memorial Park to optimize its 9 acres for community use.
