Uganda Reports 14% Drop in Electricity Tariffs Following Karuma Hydropower Project Launch

HYDRO POWER

Uganda's Electricity Regulatory Authority has announced a 14% reduction in electricity tariffs, lowering the average cost to 395.8 shillings per kilowatt-hour, largely due to increased output from the Karuma Hydropower Project and a restructuring of the distribution network. While the decrease benefits consumers, it has also led to service disruptions, prompting targeted investments to improve reliability. The new tariff structure includes protections for vulnerable groups and discounted rates for essential services.
