Uganda's Installed Power Capacity Reaches 2,052.6MW with Karuma Hydro Plant Commissioned

Uganda's installed power capacity has reached 2,052.6MW with the commissioning of the 600MW Karuma Hydro Power Plant in June 2024, part of a strategic effort to enhance the electricity sector's reliability and affordability. Electricity dispatch increased significantly, rising from 4,078GWh in 2018 to 6,623GWh in 2024, with Isimba and Karuma contributing about 27% of total power by 2025. The government has invested $100 million in grid modernization and introduced measures like the Lifeline Tariff to support low-income consumers, aiming for an inclusive energy future by 2030.
