UK Defense Committee Warns of Security Risks; Government Postpones Defense Investment Plan
The UK House of Commons Defense Committee reported that Britain is not adequately prepared to defend itself and its allies, citing over-dependence on the United States and insufficient defense spending. This comes amid rising threats, particularly from Russia, prompting calls from Conservative leaders for increased investment in military readiness.
A British military commander stressed the need for more citizens to be prepared to fight for their country. Additionally, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Richard Knighton criticized the slow pace of private investment in the defense sector. Earlier this year, the UK government established UK Defense Innovation with a budget of at least $400 million to enhance technology and job creation; however, the anticipated defense investment plan has been postponed.
