UNDP Installs Solar Power Systems at Mpilo Central and United Bulawayo Hospitals in Zimbabwe
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has installed 350-kilowatt solar power systems at Mpilo Central Hospital and United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) to address electricity outages. This initiative aims to provide uninterrupted power supply, enhancing clinical services and reducing electricity costs.
UBH acting clinical director Trust Mushawarima noted that the solar systems would ensure machines operate continuously and allow the hospitals to feed excess power back into the national grid. Additionally, at least 19 local council clinics have also been powered by solar energy.
UNDP resident representative Ayodele Odusola emphasized the importance of sustaining and expanding these solar projects. Separately, Mpilo's director of operations announced the nearing completion of a significant waste management plant capable of incinerating waste for the entire Bulawayo region.
