DEFENSE
The University of Arizona has launched the Kyl Institute for National Security to improve the translation of research into practical solutions for U.S. national security, following a partnership with Precise Systems under the $151 billion Golden Dome missile defense initiative. Named after former U.S.
Senator Jon Kyl and led by retired Air Force Gen. Robin Rand, the institute will focus on the university's strengths in space operations and hypersonics, with funding from the Arizona Board of Regents set for 2025. The UA reported over $1 billion in research activities for fiscal year 2024, reflecting a $45 million increase from the prior year.
