University of Waterloo Launches Open Quantum Design for Open-source Quantum Computing
QUANTUM COMPUTING
Researchers at the University of Waterloo have launched Open Quantum Design (OQD), the first open-source, full-stack quantum computer, co-founded by Drs. Crystal Senko, Rajibul Islam, Roger Melko, and CEO Greg Dick.
Built on eight years of development, OQD utilizes ion-trapping technology and aims to enhance collaboration in quantum research, with over 30 software contributors and partnerships with organizations like Xanadu. This initiative seeks to broaden access to quantum hardware, accelerate advancements in the field, and train future experts.
